I discovered Associated Content via a forum on Suite 101. I love it! You pick your own content. You can then submit your material for an upfront payment AND still get performance payment.
I have submitted three articles thus far (2 in history and 1 in health) and have been given an upfront payment for them all. Best of all, as soon as you accept the offer, they send payment right away. No waiting to make a $25 minimum before they send payment. And on performance pay, there is only a minimum of $1.50 to receive your money. Performance pay is only sent monthly, however.
Note to everyone: I am NOT getting paid if you sign up for Associated Content. They do NOT pay for referrals.
Note #2: They do check every article for proper grammar, spelling, etc. I have not had one kicked back yet (but I've written lots of articles), but it is mentioned in the forums.

Suite 101- Rated B
Overall, I would recommend it to writers who are new at freelancing (even if you're not new to writing). The experience, learning, and publishing credits make up for the fairly poor pay. If you're interested in becoming a Suite101 writer, there is an application process.

Positives-
They have a great editorial staff and tutorials that will help you learn article writing basics. Most places have the same requirements- a certain format for sources, not using "open" links, no first- or second- person writing, etc.
It will get you some publishing credits. Now that I have quite a few articles published there, it has been much easier to get other freelance writing jobs. Ones that pay a lot more.
They have a great community and forums. I've gotten leads on other jobs from the forums, not to mention a lot of great advice. Unlike some writing forums out there, I don't think I've every seen a rude, snappish remark. People are open, friendly, and willing to help each other.
Negatives-
THE PAY. I have to be honest. I've written 40 articles over the last six months. My income so far is a little over $21. That means I only got paid about 50 cents per article. Thus far.
-----They only pay for page views. No up-front article pay. I really, really don't like this. Even a $1.00 an article plus page view pay would have tripled what I've made so far. Right now, I'm writing for other sites, and using Suite101 for my religious articles.
-----However, I will continue to get revenue forever on those articles. Plus I have reprint rights. Suite101 only takes electronic rights for the first year.
-----I write for a non "high-paying" area. Finance links usually garner about $10.00 per click. But I'm not a financial expert (IRA's, tax laws, etc.). I write about religion for Suite101.

 Good Sources of Income From Blogging
*Adigitize is a great source of income for any blogger, and would be the first one I would recommend. It is easy to use with any blogging platform and is allowed on almost all platforms. (If you know one where it is not, let me know!). Two ways to earn money:
1) Simply by posting their ads on their site and doing the daily clicks. You get paid more if more people visit your site. My first month (October 2009), I did not advertise, I simply posted ads and did clicks. I earned a little over $10.00. Not bad at all, especially as many of the click sites also have Entrecard, allowing you to do drops and earn money on Adgitize at the same time. 2) Publishers. For $14.00 per month, YOUR ad will appear throughout the Adgitize network. You earn every day that you post, in addition to earning by the two methods above.  |
